In a Twitter post on 21 March 2019, President Trump suggested that the United States should recognise Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Mr Trump submitted that the move was important for the “State of Israel and regional stability.”
Former CEO of PetroVietnam Exploration Production, Do Van Khanh, arrested on corruption charges.
On 18 December the Ministry of Public Security prosecuted Do Van Khanh on “abusing power to appropriate property.” On 20 December Phan Van Anh Vu, the former chairman of Bac Nam 79 Construction Company was sentenced to 17 years in prison. This comes on top of a previous conviction in July 2018 where Vu was sentenced to nine years. The same day the former CEO of DongA Bank, which was implicated in the corruption case, was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou, arrested in Canada on US extradition request.
On 1 December Meng Wanzhou, the vice-chairwoman and chief financial officer of Huawei, was arrested in Vancouver, Canada at the request of the United States authorities. The detainment occurred as Presidents’ Trump and Xi were formally meeting at the G20 Summit in Argentina.
