Pequod Advisory Group is an international business intelligence and emerging markets research firm. We assist foreign investors and c-suite executives with relevant and timely intelligence and research in Lusophone markets. Our role is to uncover the facts relating to businesses and partners in these countries, which includes public records and open source research.

We are looking for local junior research associates to join our in-field Lusophone team (Brazil, Angola, and Mozambique).

The role:

The day-to-day work will involve corporate research on companies and individuals in Brazil, Angola, or Mozambique.

The applicant needs to be digitally savvy as the role focuses on public records research: online news media, publicly available databases, online court records, and records within regulatory agencies.

About You:

You must be comfortable with ambiguity in the work environment and possess an attitude of creativity in order to find the answers required by the client. Whilst we provide a framework and process for assignments, you will be expected to explore new sources and methods for achieving our desired outcomes.

You have an ability to synthesize information from multiple online and commercial sources into a readable coherent report, and you love problem solving and trouble shooting. You genuinely enjoy learning new information and ‘connecting the dots’.

You should be familiar with, and have an interest in, the business environment in Brazil, Angola, or Mozambique, have an interest in, and understanding of, the political landscape. To succeed in the role, you will have a curious and inquisitive nature that is required of top researchers. You will either be familiar with, or rapidly become familiar with, all public source databases on companies in Brazil, Angola, or Mozambique and have the ability to locate, comprehend and translate corporate registrations and litigation on the relevant subjects.

Ultimately, you pride yourself on achieving results.

Your background and education:

You will have had some prior experience in media, investigative journalism, security, government or NGO work, or previous business and market research roles. You have an interest in business research, commercial risk, due diligence, and / or security.

You possess a bachelors degree (undergraduate) as a minimum preferably in law, engineering, political science, or equivalent. Graduate degree holders will be favored.

Applicants absolutely must have excellent writing skills in English and Portuguese.

This role comes with a high degree of autonomy as you are remote based from our head office. It will be incumbent upon you to plan your day and manage your time effectively.
